A high-resolution digital camera takes a photo of the entire retina without the discomfort of mydriatic eye drops.  At the same time it is unquestionably safer because patients to can drive home immediately after the exam without the usual, and dangerous, blurry eyes that result from the older procedure of dilation that often takes up to four hours to clear up. 

The Optomap Retinal Exam is made possible by the Panoramic200 Scanning Laser Opthalmoscope.  It uses revolutionary Virtual Point scanning laser techonology. Optos Retinal Imaging creates an Optomap.

This photo also allows point to point comparison in future eye exams, so we can spot any possible progression of a potential eye disease at an early stage.  This comparison, in turn, might be the necessary information you need to save and preserve your sight throughout your life.  Many eye diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears, and attachments, if detected at an early stage, can be treated successfully without a total loss of vision.
